With the current economic situation it seems that no one is safe from mounting debts!  Today we are going to look at some famous bankrupts.  Some are from the UK and some are from further abroad.

First on our Celebrity Bankruptcy list is Mother of four and former face of a well know supermarket, Kerry Katona started off with girl group Atomic Kitten before marrying Brian McFadden. Her stock rose higher after winning I’m A Celebrity, But, the earnings she accumulated, she was made bankrupt after failing to deliver the final payment of £82,000 of a £417,000 tax bill.

Recent reports have suggested that Miquita Oliver is reportedly facing bankruptcy after failing to pay a tax bill in the region of £175,000 .

A statement from accountants Baker Tilly Restructuring and Recovery claims that the HMRC has petitioned for the TV presenter to be declared bankrupt as a result of unpaid taxes.

Despite police acquitting Michael Barrymore in 2001 for the death of Stuart Lubbock, the former TV presenter still suffered severe financial difficulties as a result and went without TV work for years afterwards.

Barrymore eventually went bankrupt in 2004 after getting a £1.4 million tax bill.

It has been confirmed that TV pundit and gambling expert Angus Loughran was declared bankrupt in 2008.  Bookmakers Sporting Index, sent “statto” into bankruptcy over the relatively small sum of £5,700.

Two Fat Ladies star, Clarissa Dickson Wright, has filed for bankruptcy three times in total. She has cited finding stable employment as the cause

From the height of his success in the 1970s, Gary Glitter has certainly fallen from grace. He divorced his wife and he went bankrupt in 1980.  Since these events he has done other things which we shall not go into on this site.

So lets look at some other famous bankrupts

Donald Trump – American billionaire

Mike Tyson – boxer, heavyweight champion of the world

Oskar Schindler – activist who saved over 1000 Jews from the Nazis.

Burt Reynolds – actor

Shane Ritchie – TV actor/soap star

Eddy ‘The Eagle’ Edwards – Great Britain’s first Olympic ski jumper

Mick Fleetwood – musician/drummer

M.C. Hammer – rap singer

Meat Loaf – rock singer

So there you have it.  Its not just us “normal people” who are at risk of financial trouble.  Hard times can hit all of us…even the rich and famous.
